Bupa posts double-digit sales growth in first half
All-new TVC reinforces "Health Insurance Specialist" image
Offers 50% discount on Supplementary Major Medical Benefit to first-year Bupa CarePro subscribers

Bupa (Asia) Limited ("Bupa" and "the Group") reported a substantial increase in sales for the first half of 2008, seeing a major surge in the number of customers and with total subscriptions soaring by some 18% compared with the first half of 2007. This outstanding level of growth was mainly attributable to the launch of the innovative Bupa HealthCare Card, which frees users from having to settle their own medical bills and then claim reimbursement, giving the insured unprecedented convenience.

In addition to its current TV campaign encouraging more customers to take advantage of the Card´s benefits, between now and 29 July 2008, Bupa is offering a 50% discount on the first-year Supplementary Major Medical Benefit to subscribers of the Bupa CarePro scheme.

Bupa sales grow by 20% in first half year
By consistently developing and offering innovative healthcare products that fit customer needs, Bupa is seeing its business grow at a constantly accelerating pace. The Group now has more than 17,000 customers in Hong Kong, up by 12% in the first half of 2007. Meanwhile, total and individual insurance subscriptions in the first half of 2008 rose some 18% and 17% respectively.

In its recently launched TV commercial - "Your First Sight" - Bupa uses a humorous approach to introduce Hong Kong people to the advantages of the Bupa HealthCare Card, which is designed to relieve the insured of the hassle of having to make hospital payments and then claim reimbursement. The TVC highlights the Group´s "Health Insurance Specialist" image and its ability to keep customers´ needs top of mind while providing professional medical insurance services.

In the commercial, a patient recovering from eye surgery has his bandages removed, whereupon he faints at the sight of the huge medical bill he has to pay before he can leave hospital. This traditional payment approach places a direct financial burden on patients, involving payment of a considerable amount that can only be reclaimed after some delay. With the Bupa HealthCare Card, the insured is left free to recover from his or her medical problems while Bupa´s hassle-free professional health insurance services take care of the hospital charges.
