Dr. Chang Chee Siu

If you are 32 with diabetes for 16 years I gather that diabetes started at 16 years old and if you were not overweight then, and you were started with insulin right then, you had type 1 diabetes. However if you were overweight then and were started with oral medications, you probably has type 2 diabetes. What are you treated at present? Insulin or oral drugs? What is your weight and height? Diabetic neuropathy usually affect the lower limbs first and it is very uncommon to affect whole body. I suggest you need to ask your doctor whether there is any other causes of peripheral neuropathy or vasculopathy. Vitamin deficiency especially vitamin B12 if you take Metformin. Is there any kidney complications due to diabetes? If all these have been excluded, collagen vacular diseases (unrelated to diabetes) may need to be considered. MRI Brain may be of help to exclude cerebral lesions and reassure you if negative. One may try medications for neuropathy to alleviate symptoms while tests are still being done.
