Dr. Lam Chi Wan

There is no cure for esophagitis. The reason for the esophagitis is because the muscle sphincter between the esophagus and stomach become weak and the acid in the stomach can flow back to the esophagus and leads to heartburn. The treatment is to take medication to reduce acid. However, When the acid lowering drug is discontinued, then the acid reflux will recur. The only cure for esophagitis is surgery to tighten up the muscle sphincter but the result is not always satisfactory. Therefore most people with more severe esophagitis would require long term drug treatment or take drug whenever you develops symptoms. You should cut the amount of meat and fatty food. You should also avoid taking snacks before bedtime.
