Karicin is an antibiotic which is used to deal with bacterial infection. Naturally, while removing the harmful bacteria, it also indiscriminately kill off the useful bacteria in our body. It this occurs in the gut, the side effect of nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramp, diarrhea can occur. If the good vaginal bacteria is removed, then yeast infection may sprout.
Also beware that antibiotic may lower contraceptive effect of the pill. So extra precaution is advisable. Your doctor can give you further direction.
Specifically for Karicin, side effect also includes tooth and tongue discoloration, smell and taste disturbance, stomatitis, glossitis, muscle and joint pain, dizziness, sleep disturbance and confusion.
If severe symptoms like bloody stool, severe abdominal pain, or decreased urination occur, then the antibiotic muse be stopped and further advice is required form you doctor.
Side effect occurs in every medication, even with herbal remedies, supplements and traditional Chinese medicine. Every western medicine is subjected to a lot of clinical studies prior to being released for use to public. So each western medicine drug will have a list of well documented side effect.
Luckily, most people do not get any side effect at all. If mild side effect occurs and the medication is taken on a short-term basis, then it is safe to continue. If rare but severe side effect occurs, then it is wise to promptly further advice from your doctor. I would emphasis the importance of enquiring the symptoms of these serious side effect profile so that you can promptly stop the drug.
For the non-Western medications stated above, they are not subjected to as vigorous studies as for Western medicine. Hence, the side effect profile is usually unclear. If any of these is used on a long term basis, I advise kidney and liver checks after say 6-month use.
