Usually there is transient cow milk protein and lactose intolerance during gastroenteritis. So soy milk or lactose free milk are commonly chosen to replace the usual formula (like Enfamil in this case) which contains cow milk protein and lactose. Usually we recommend to use those "diarrhoea formula" until the bowel movement becomes normal. Nutritional values are about the same as normal formula. There is no problem in continue them for even longer. However, some baby may not like the taste of soy formula. So patient may try lactose free cow milk formula.
