A very important square – the power of a smile
| Source : | New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association |
What kind of image will you associate with a fact that another person has smiled at you? Try to imagine a smiling face and ponder the kind of emotions and feelings we will have:
- Warm, gentle and friendly
- being accepted
- Happy
- Relaxed
On the contrary, when the person frowns, how will you feel?
- Rejected
- In doubt: what have I done wrong?
- Your mood gets worse
- Annoyed, confused, troubled
On any one day, how much time can you see your own face? Probably about two to three minutes and not more than half an hour!
However, our face is seen by others most of the day.
Who decides which face to show to others? If it isn't "you", who else can that be?
Are you making those around you feel relaxed or nervous? Do not underestimate the power of your face, which is even less than a single square foot. Family relationships, interpersonal communications, personnel management, business, career development etc are all directly related to this "square". If you are always frowning or looking stern and serious, you will only make others feel annoyed. One thing that should be emphasized is that "you" are the one who makes others feel annoyed. It is also "you" who plants this feeling in the mind of others.
According to Albert Mehrabian's 55%, 38%, 7% Rule, the impact of communication through "words", "tonality" and "body language" takes up 7%, 38% and 55% respectively. Among the three aspects, body language, of which a smile is an important part, takes up the largest proportion. You can choose which face to communicate to others; however, the impression you give to others is not decided by you. A smiling face can certainly leave a gentle, polite and friendly impression.
A smile is the most beautiful picture in the world, the most natural makeup product, and a catalyzer of life. A warm smile makes one feel cool; a sincere smile makes one feel warm; and a kind smile makes one feel at home. A person with a smiling face makes everything else alive.
How will you choose your own facial expression? From now on, be responsible for the impression you give to others!
