Bupa brings world class healthcare services to customers in Guangdong

Hong Kong,21 Mar 2018

Leading international health and care group intends to set high standards of health and care for local customers accessing its first integrated medical centre in China.

[21 March 2018, Guangzhou] Bupa, an international leading health and care group, today announced the offering of world class healthcare services to local consumers at its first integrated medical centre in China. Bupa’s wholly owned medical centre is located on the 3rd floor of GT Land Autumn Plaza within the Central Business District in Tianhe, Guangzhou.

Introducing private capital and growing high-end healthcare services have become two integral parts in the healthcare industry’s future development in Guangdong. The Health and Family Planning Commission of Guangdong Province, the Hong Kong Food and Health Bureau and the Health Bureau of Macau signed a framework agreement on co-operation among the three places on hygiene and health at the first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Hygiene and Health Cooperation Conference on 9 January 2018. According to the agreement, the Guangdong Government will encourage the investment from Hong Kong and Macao in Guangdong’s high-end healthcare services sector. Related policies and supporting administrative measures will be implemented to facilitate Hong Kong and Macao healthcare providers’ establishment of medical institutions in Guangdong.

Bupa's investment in the integrated medical centre was conducted via Quality HealthCare Medical Services Ltd., Bupa's health provision subsidiary in Hong Kong, which was facilitated by the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) between Hong Kong and China.

Gerhard Zielinski, Bupa China Program Director, said: "We're very excited to be the very first British health and care company operating wholly-owned medical facilities in China enabled through CEPA. Through our professional and comprehensive healthcare services, we intend to set high standards of health and care for local customers accessing our facilities."

Situated at the heart of Zhujiang New Town, Bupa's new integrated medical centre gives customers easy access to its services and facilities. Its modern, patient-centric design offers a friendly environment during customers' visits.

The medical centre is operated by a highly professional medical and service team, which is supported by Bupa's international network in the UK, Spain and Hong Kong to deliver evidence-based best practice care for customers. Our customers are engaged in shared decision-making to manage their health conditions and they are welcome to get a second opinion from our medical professionals for chronic conditions such as cancer.

The medical centre offers a wide spectrum of healthcare services – Preventive Health Section, General Practice, Internal Medicine, Gynecology, Pediatric, Ophthalmology, Ear, Nose and Throat, Stomatology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Anesthesiology, Medical Laboratory, Medical Imaging Department and health check-ups for individual customers, as well as comprehensive workplace healthcare solutions for corporate clients.

The medical centre is also equipped with internationally advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities and technologies; and our referral pathway established with leading public hospitals further ensures compressive and high-quality care delivered to all of our customers.

Dr. Eric Wang, Medical Director, said: "Our clinical models, customer offerings and digital services at the medical centre here are developed by drawing on Bupa's international expertise and successful clinical experience in Hong Kong and other markets. Not only do we aim to have our customers recovered from illness, but also empower them to manage their health via our personalized services."

Customers enjoy a personalized, convenient, digitally-enabled experience at the medical centre from appointment arrangement, clinical consultation, treatment and post-treatment follow-up, recovery to daily health management.

Bupa's dedicated mobile app and website empower customers to arrange their appointments, manage their family medical information on a real time basis. They can make payments for their bills and receive personalized health content on mobile devices anytime, anywhere for free. Service Ambassadors ensure that all customers are well supported during their time at the centre, and after they leave.

"We all see health as an absolute focus of our lives. China has strongly committed to health reform with a view to a Healthy China in 2030. Bupa, as a leading international health and care group, is keen to get involved in that process and we will make the most of our global resources to help our customers in China improve their health." said Gerhard.
