A Better World

At Bupa, our purpose drives everything we do. We’re here to help people live longer, healthier, happier lives—and to make a better world. That’s why sustainability is at the heart of our strategy as we reimagine healthcare to deliver better health outcomes for more people, in Hong Kong and beyond.

Our approach

People
We want to support more people with better, more affordable access to preventative healthcare and use digital technology to scale our sustainable impact.
  • The Healthy Cities programme, powered by the Blua Health app, aims to develop resilience both in individuals and the wider community, by investing both in healthy lifestyles and in healthy environments.
  • Through the Healthy Cities Challenge, we’re bringing together companies, employees, public institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), associations and foundations to participate in a movement challenge that requires a commitment to wellbeing activity which then, in turn, generates investment in an urban regeneration project.

Communities
We’re aiming to create healthier, more inclusive communities – helping people stay well in a changing climate.
  • We support inclusive sports, such as the Hong Kong Streetathon, and partner with NGOs to break down barriers for individuals with disabilities. In 2026, we will continue to build and scale these walks in partnership with Do Asia and A Plastic Ocean Foundation citywide.
  • We also support Hong Kong Paralympic Day, a public event that promotes inclusive sports and celebrates Para athletes through community engagement and on-site healthcare.
  • We’re delivering community projects to foster healthier, more inclusive societies in 50 cities across the world by 2027, including Hong Kong.
Planet
We want to restore and protect nature, reduce our impact on the environment and drive sustainable healthcare as we drive to be Net Zero by 2040.
  • Our ambition to be a Net Zero business by 2040 is underpinned by science-based targets which are aligned to keep global warming to no more than 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels.
  • We’re also committed to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 46.2% by 2030 from a 2019 base year.
We’re committed to lowering the environmental impact of care while regenerating ecosystems that support health.
  • In partnership with The Green Earth, we’ve launched a 5-year tree planting programme to enhance local biodiversity—planting native species across 10,000 m² of woodland in Yuen Tun Country Park.
  • With A Plastic Ocean Foundation, we’re delivering a bamboo planting initiative since 2024, introducing bamboo plots to strengthen peri-urban waterways and support ecological resilience.
  • Through a 12-month collaboration with ClearBot, we’re helping clean up Hong Kong’s harbour—collecting 500 kg of marine waste using AI-powered robotic boats.
By reusing resources and minimising waste, we can act in a way that supports both people and planet health. Learn more about our global approach to sustainable healthcare.

Achievements
  • Healthy Cities: Execute 18 community and climate walks in 2025, reaching out to more than 2,500 public and employees
  • Since launching Healthy Cities on Blua in 2023, we have engaged over 6,000 people and collectively accumulated 1.8 billion steps, championing healthy walking and inspiring healthier lifestyles. Building on this momentum, we’ve introduced climate walks and community walks to connect wellbeing with sustainability and drive positive change.
  • We are driving our ESG “Planet” goals by leading the Single-Use Item initiative across our clinics, transitioning five disposable clinical items to reusable alternatives to reduce waste, cut emissions, and embed sustainability into everyday healthcare operations.
  • In 2024 and 2025, Bupa Hong Kong became a sponsor of the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and was also the official healthcare partner for the Hong Kong team at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, committed to promoting health, equality, and inclusion.
  • Since 2023, Bupa Hong Kong has been sponsoring the Hong Kong Streetathon as a Healthy Cities Partner, promoting active lifestyles and urban wellbeing.
  • Renewable electricity certificates (RECs) with CLP help avoid ~1,500 tonnes of CO₂ annually—equivalent to removing 340 cars from the road.
  • LED upgrades across 40 clinics save 35+ tonnes of CO₂ per year.
  • QPass and e-chits reduce paper use by the equivalent of ~2,100 trees annually.
