Bupa Hong Kong Collaborates with Tech Giants to Usher in a New Era

Smart Healthcare under Bupa’s “Connected Care” Strategy

Hong Kong,16 Oct 2025

Addressing the challenges of fragmented health experience, Bupa Hong Kong today announces collaborations with global and local technology leaders to advance its smart healthcare capabilities. These collaborations, spanning AI applications and biometric technologies, mark a comprehensive upgrade in Bupa Hong Kong’s digital transformation. They also reinforce Bupa’s commitment to its brand promise, Together for Your Health, by making healthcare more connected, accessible and affordable for customers.

The first round of collaborated innovations is launching now at the brand new Bupa’s network flagship medical centre in Central, where customers can use the city’s first ever Express Check-in to conveniently check in for care appointments with the wave of a palm. Meanwhile, the new “Blua Health Pass” provides Hong Kong residents with more flexible, affordable and digitally-enabled outpatient choices, delivering on Bupa’s commitment to “Connected Care.”

Fiona Harris, Managing Director of Bupa Hong Kong said: “We are advancing towards a future of more connected and seamless healthcare experiences for our customers by leveraging technology. These collaborations exemplify how our Connected Care strategy aims to make healthcare more accessible, enabling customers to move interchangeably between physical and digital services, and enhance their health outcomes.”

When Innovation Meets Purpose: Bupa Introduces Hong Kong’s First Express Check-in with the Wave of a Palm

This marks the beginning of a bold commitment: to make healthcare more accessible, seamless and convenient. At Bupa, we believe that healthcare is an essential part of everyday life, and everyone deserves a seamless experience. In a fast-paced city like Hong Kong, seeing a doctor often means queuing, filling out forms, waiting, and rushing around. So we asked ourselves: if technology can make shopping, transport, and finance instant and seamless, why can’t healthcare be just as simple; as easy as a wave of the hand?

Bupa is launching a new “Express Check-in” healthcare experience designed to streamline clinic visits. Customers can simply register their identity and book medical services through the Blua Health App. Upon arrival at the designated clinic, they can verify their identity by scanning a QR code at the Express Check-in kiosk, allowing them to proceed faster to their appointment. This innovative approach eliminates the need to queue at the front desk for check-in, significantly reducing wait times and enabling a faster, more seamless healthcare experience.

In collaboration with Tencent, Bupa is now introducing Hong Kong’s first palm scan check-in technology into the healthcare setting, offering our customers a smarter, more convenient way to access care. This technology combines palm print and palm vein dual biometric identification, allowing Bupa customers to simply present their palm to a high-precision scanner at the check-in kiosk for fast, contactless identity verification—without the need for physical documents or intermediaries. Users can complete the check-in process instantly without removing their masks for identity confirmation, significantly reducing hygiene risks and delivering a smarter, more convenient, and more personalised healthcare experience.

The Express Check-in experience is expected to roll out progressively from late October across Bupa’s network of more than 20 healthcare service locations. This first-of-its-kind service — the palm scan check-in — in Hong Kong’s private healthcare sector will launch at Bupa’s flagship medical centre in Central, followed by centres in Tsim Sha Tsui and Admiralty starting in November.

Yuman Chan, General Manager of Bupa Insurance Business in Hong Kong said: “The city’s healthcare system faces challenges such as prolonged patient wait times and limited funding solutions for individuals seeking affordable outpatient treatments. Our collaboration with leading tech partners is helping us tackle these issues head-on. With Express Check-in, our members can access care faster and more conveniently. Blua Health Pass offers an affordable, long-term solution for individuals without comprehensive insurance, supporting their outpatient needs. Meanwhile, our cloud and AI collaborations enable us to harness big data to enhance patient care securely, intelligently and with greater personalisation.”

Smart Diagnostics Upgrades for Full Body Health
Bupa’s network flagship medical centre in Central is now equipped with a suite of advanced smart diagnostic technologies. These include the InBody composition analyser, which accurately measures body fat, muscle mass and hydration levels. Seamlessly integrated into the overall consultation experience, these technologies elevate the comfort, efficiency and innovation of medical care for Bupa customers.

Partnering with Tech Giants to Lead Smart Healthcare for Hong Kong
Bupa is actively leveraging advance technology to deliver its Connected Care strategy, collaborating with leading global and local tech companies including Microsoft Hong Kong, Google Cloud, Tencent, Cognizant, EPAM, Oracle, HK Telecom and SOCIF.
“Each of them brings their unique technology offering to power Connected Care,” said Bupa Hong Kong Chief Information Officer Earvin Lim. “By integrating the strengths of these leading platforms, we aim to enhance customer experience, streamline operations, and introduce AI-powered tools to provide personal healthcare journeys.”
